My Heater Core Went Out And Steam Filled The Car Getting Antifreeze On The Windshield, How Do I Get It Off?

The steam from the leak filled the car and “stained” the window, I guess. I have tried cleaning the windows with numerous window cleaners, but nothing seems to get it off the windows…any suggestions?

Since ethylene glycol (antifreeze) is made with alcohol, try wiping your windows down a few times with alcohol, then try a good window cleaner. That should work.

Try any automotive glass cleaner. Windex, purple magic, armor all (only glass cleaner), etc. . If that doesn’t work, run a razor blade across the windshield at an angle so it is just barly parallel with the windshild. If you use the razor blade, use caution, because you might scrach your winshield if the blade isn’t flat to the windshild, and if the blade of the razor blade is 90 degrees off of the windshield.

I’ll bet if window cleaner didn’t do the job, you had some oil and rust mixed in. Antifreeze would dissolve in water. Try taking dry paper towels, and keep wiping. Maybe try some mineral spirits. Oils can be tough to break down. I feel a bit sorry for you, that can be a mess… Good luck

try some automotive glass cleaner, and you’ll have to clean it about 10 times. That stuff is really slimy.
    Good Luck.
