What Is The Best Way To Get (red) Fruit Punch Stains Out Of Carpet?

My fiance spilled red fruit punch all over our tan carpet (we have an apartment). At the time it happened I didn’t have any cleaner left so I rushed out and got some carpet cleaner. It didn’t work. I’ve tried home remedies such as a white wash cloth soaked in dawn with an iron applied (to get the color to wick up into the cloth) and peroxide, but nothing seems to budge the color. In fact, the stain is still there and it’s been months. I tried a variety of name brand cleaners. Is there some secret I don’t know about or am I going to have to pay for steam cleaning (so I can get my damage deposit back)?

Hate to tell you this but that stain ain’t comming out. Don’t waste you money on anything else. Oxy clean does not work!! Just let them take the damamges out of your deposit. Even a steam cleaner won’t help. I noticed my stains as soon as they happened and I own a steam cleaner. So I broke that out right away. It helped a little. We are just going to have to replace the carpet now.

You can rent a steam cleaner for about $20. Grocery stores and Home Depot have them.

If you would have had any chance of getting that out, it would have been right away. I’m sorry, but I’m sure the stain has set in and will not come out. I don’t think even the steam cleaning will work. I’d hate for you to pay for them to come out and then have it not work. If you do that, ask them about a guarantee on the stain.
    Good luck.

the best cleaner I have ever used is the one sold by Kirby. You know, the people who come to your house to sell vacuums. It costs about $10 but has cleaned everything I’ve tried it on.

Borrow a carpet cleaner and give it a try, but you are most likely doomed. The fruit punch is red because it has food coloring. Food coloring is dye. Apartment carpet is usually inexpensive carpet that is not sturdy enough to be cleaned very often. A good carpet cleaner is your best chance because you need to suck up all the punch from out of the pad, to avoid the stain returning over and over again. Blot the stain with a solution of 1/4 tsp clear dish soap in a cup of warm water. Blot -do not rub. Blot with a white towel wetted with the solution. Then lay a stack of dry paper towels on it, weighted with a book. See if the dye is wicking out to the paper towels. You will have to do this over and over and over to get it out.
If you cannot get it clean, you may be able to have a carpet company cut and patch the stained area using carpet from a hidden area such as a closet. That may be cheaper than losing your deposit.
    Sorry i don’t have better news…
